FONDULAC PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Fondulac Preschool provides an environment to nurture each child socially, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Each child will receive the guidance to help make the transition from home to a formal school setting in kindergarten.
This transition will include readiness skills in reading, writing, math, science and history. It will also include routine skills such as functioning in groups, sharing, and taking turns. In addition, we will work on listening, following directions, and participation in front of a group.
As a Christian school, Bible stories will be incorporated from time to time.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM
The daily schedule is a balance of independent choice, group time, active time, and quiet time. The schedule will be flexible enough to allow for interesting events and special days.
Block 1 Activities make up the first part of the program and include self-choice activities. A variety of “centers” are offered for exploration. The centers include art, science, games, blocks, dramatic, play, cars/trucks, and large motor skill activities. Occasionally the center time will be outdoors, weather permitting.
Block 2 will be large group time with activities such as greetings planning together, sharing, pledge of allegiance, calendar time, weather bear, finger plays, and music. This is the time in which the children are encouraged to work together in a group.
Block 3 consists of short prayer, snacks, cleaning up, using the restroom, and stories. We hope to instill in the children a spirit of cooperation, sharing, and helping.
Block 4 time consists of learning activities. These activities will be teacher directed and age appropriate in small group settings. The children will learn by doing. The focus here will be readiness skills.
Special days such as holidays and field trips will be planned on a monthly basis. Each month will have a topic of interest. This topic will then be broken down into weekly themes. A monthly newsletter will inform parents of these special times.
ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENT
A child must be three years old by September 1st and must be completely potty trained to be enrolled in our preschool program.
Applications will be taken from February until the class is filled. A waiting list will then be started. The $25.00 registration fee and the completed application form will hold the position for the child.
The Illinois Department of Children and family Services (DCFS) require that all children have parents fill out and return medical forms and permissions slips. They also require this handbook to be discussed and presented to the parents.
Pre-School runs: September through May – our days off coincide with East Peoria District 86.
